In the Records Room at the Rural Life Museum visitors will find documentation of the history of the Town of Milton (Genoa, Northville, King Ferry…) from its earliest settlers in 1789 to the present.
For genealogists there are family histories, birth, death, church, cemetery and military records. The history of early schools (over 50 one room schoolhouses) through the consolidation of Genoa, King Ferry and Sherwood Schools, plus yearbook copies for these three schools, into the Southern Cayuga Central School district can be found. Information on neighboring towns, rural life and agricultural progress is available.
Copies of the community newspaper, the Genoa Tribune, for over 100 years are on file.
A library of local and NYS history books, railroads, the Civil War and more, in addition to several books by local authors, welcomes researchers and interested community members. Various displays and exhibits in the Records Room change periodically.
Research is available to the public during regular hours or by appointment.
